Children and adolescent with diabetes should have the same social rights and opportunities as their peers without diabetes. They should not be excluded from any type of social activity because of their disease. They should be entitled to receive :

  1. Adequate supplies of insulin.
  2. Syringes.
  3. Monitoring equipment.
  4. Comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals expert in the care of childhood and adolescent diabetes.

Families in need should receive financial and practical support to facilitate optimal management of diabetes. Families may also benefit from assistance with housing, nutritional support and transport to and from medical care. The social stigma of having a chronic disease such as diabetes should be minimized by open discussion and wider public understanding of diabetes in schools and the in the media. On leaving school, the young person with diabetes should not be exclude from any type of employment or insurance policies. (HC - Team)
