Leukotriene-Receptor Antagonists (LTRAs) seem like to become a standard of inhaled glucocorticoids for people who need asthma treatment, but other also agree that drugs also helps the symptom reduction since they work as monotherapy for asthma patients.

LTRA is mostly recommended for asthma patients since it works as first-line treatment to control the asthma on patients with mild persistent disease. Based on the clinical trials under serious control, TRLAs are clearly effective to reduce symptoms.

Particular study conducted to evaluate LTRAs effectiveness that involved both LTRA and inhaled glucocorticoid as first-line therapy. The first evaluation examined an LTRA versus an inhaled glucocorticoid as first-line therapy, whereas another included the addition of either LTRA or a LABA to a glucocorticoid.

The evaluation is applied on patients with asthma isn’t well controlled. Under physician watch, the positive result is seen after two months which highlight the happy news that LTRA is acceptable as to standard therapy in both the first-line and add-on scenarios to improve patients; quality of life.

Besides the improvement of life quality on any treated groups, two-year treatment with LTRA brings another result like saving bronchodilator use in the same effectiveness. Therefore, patients with asthma should be able to follow the treatment regularly, especially by taking the LTRAs orally instead of inhaling.

In UK, LTRAs are not commonly prescribed and this can be the reason why a quarter of patients under LTRA treatment switch to a LABA or accepted an add-on LABA. Another probability is that they can be only small number or physicians who were unfamiliar of the study that proved LTRAs effectiveness that they switch therapy for their patients.

Anti-leukotrienes are likely cheaper as generic version and safe to use, thus public seems to expect it to come soon. In brief, anti-leukotrienes also help patients to carry out their daily activities without interruptions since these medications work effectively like inhaled glucocorticoids.
