Responding the World Health Organization’s announcement regarding the effect of cellphone on human health, people start feeling anxious about their own health. WHO encompassed that cellphone may trigger cancer to grow and this conclusion was obtained from particular studies.

WHO’s warning about cancer is true, but the true evidence that cellphone causes cancer is not true yet since there hasn’t been a significant increase in brain cancer. WHO estimated there are around 5 billion cell phone users in the world which means it is almost three-quarters of the global population.

On the other hand, data gathered from National Cancer Institute showed that the mortality rate and occurrence of brain and central nervous system cancers hasn’t been exposing significant raise since 1987. But WHO keeps giving evidence that people who use approximately 30 minutes each day in 10 years may have a 40% higher risk for a glioma – a rare brain tumor.

Many years earlier, many studies were conducted to find the connection between cellphones and cancer. About thirty studies were carried out but failed to find the link. Actually, the topic of cellphone is possible to trigger brain cancer had aroused since 1970s when the ‘giant’ phones appeared on view.

About the flat development of mortality and incidence of brain cancer, it is believed that time will give the answer eventually. It takes years or decades for tumors to develop and the a lack of rising numbers of brain cancers is related to the fact that too few people have used cell phones in a long period of time may affect the global numbers.

Furthermore, some say that radiation produced by cellphone may affect the cancer to grow if the cell phone is used for a long-term, but whether the radiation really affect the brain or not is remained blurry. Still, WHO suggests people to be cautious and consider the effect of cellphone to their health. Thus, people who use cell phone actively are suggested to follow the precautionary principle.

Many studies over brain cancer caused by the radiation exposed by cell phone are recently ongoing. Particular study at University of Utah showed that radiation dose inside the brains of 5- and 10- year-olds is pretty higher than in older people. It means, children who use cell phone should be given more serious attention. In addition, people are expected to hold cell phones about an inch away from their body.
